KK Reiki
Get your light back.
A lot of people hear the word Reiki and imagine something mysterious… but the truth is far simpler and far more human.
All living things are made up of energy, and that energy is constantly flowing through and around our bodies. However, when our energy is stagnant or blocked from stress, trauma, a poor diet or other negative influences, it can affect our emotional, psychological and physical health.
During a Reiki treatment, naturally occurring energy is channeled through the practitioner's hands to the client. When the client receives the energy, it clears blockages, and puts their body in a state of deep relaxation, shifting the nervous system from the sympathetic mode (fight or flight) to the parasympathetic mode (rest and digest).
Think of the parasympathetic mode as your body's internal repair crew. Once engaged, it keeps blood pressure low, calms inflammation, improves digestion, boosts immunity, rebuilds tissue, and fuels cellular growth, among other things. Reiki helps your body do what it does best: heal naturally.
Reiki does not claim to cure disease and should not be used to replace conventional medicine. However, it can play an important role in the healing process, and it is especially effective as part of a broader health and wellness plan. Reiki often uncovers the deeper layers contributing to illness—such as unresolved emotional stress, energy blockages, or prolonged nervous system imbalance. Addressing these underlying factors is often the most crucial, and overlooked, step in healing.
Most Reiki patients benefit from:
Decreased anxiety and depression
Improved sleep and digestion
Increased relaxation
Lowered stress
Pain relief
Reduced side effects from cancer treatments
During a Reiki session, the client lays down, fully clothed, on a massage table or comfortable chair, under a cozy blanket with soft music playing. The practitioner then exercises a number of hand positions either lightly touching or hovering over the client's body.* The experience varies from person to person, but a feeling of deep relaxation is most common. Clients also often report feelings of warmth or tingling, but whether a person feels this or not, does not reflect the effectiveness of the Reiki treatment. All Reiki sessions are beneficial and support the healing process.
*For distance sessions, clients find a relaxing position at home, while the practitioner sends healing energy from their own location.
How Many Treatments Do I Need?
The number of treatments vary based on what you want to achieve, and how long you have been suffering from your issues. Reiki is cumulative, so typically, clients start with more frequent treatments (twice a week) and need fewer sessions as time goes on (once a month).
Yes! Reiki is solely based on life force energy, which naturally exists in all living things. It can never do harm and it is safe for people and animals of any age or state of health. Reiki does not interfere with medications, and it is a complement to traditional medical care.
Reiki has been practiced for more than 100 years. It was developed in Japan by Mikao Usui in 1922 and was brought to the US in the 1930s.
More than 500 hospitals in the United States offer Reiki in some form, including well-known institutions like the Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins, Mayo Clinic, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
A Reiki station was set up to treat fire fighters and first responders at Ground Zero during the efforts that followed after the 9/11 tragedy.
Professional athletes employ Reiki practitioners to help recover more quickly from injuries and surgery, and to enhance performance.
Throughout my life, when I have seen another person suffering, I experience a deep empathy that calls me to offer support and comfort. From my earliest memories, the impulse to help others has been a defining characteristic of who I am. I am also a big proponent of natural healing and have always gravitated toward any form of holistic and complementary medicine. Our bodies know how to heal themselves when given the proper conditions.
With a Master's degree in counseling and an Usui Reiki Master degree, I offer a unique Reiki experience of compassion and focused healing. It is important to understand that our emotions are not just in our heads; they are stored in our physical body and in our nervous system, which, over time, can evolve into mental health issues and physical pain. During a Reiki treatment, we focus on releasing stored emotional tension, which in turn starts to peel away the physical and emotional layers of pain.
My Reiki practice is in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts and I also offer distance Reiki around the country, seaside Reiki on Cape Cod during summers, and volunteer Reiki services in hospice facilities.
